Description: The Habsburg emperors resided in Schönbrunn from the 18th century to 1918. Schönbrunn, which is full of exceptional examples of decorative art, was designed by the architects Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and Nicolaus Pacassi. The remarkable Baroque ensemble with its gardens and the world's first zoo (founded in 1752) is a perfect example of Gesamtkunstwerk. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.   Schönbrunn Palace (German: Schloss Schönbrunn) in Vienna is one of the most important cultural monuments in Austria and since the 1860s has also been one of the major tourist attractions in Vienna.
