The World Heritage Memory Net (WHMNet) was supported until August 2010 by the US National Science Foundation (NSF)'s International Digital Library Project under Grant No. CISE/IIS/0333036 (a part of Global Memory Net) and its several supplemental grants. Much of the data collection, creation, and organization work as well as the multilingual paraphrasing work were supported by two US NSF's Research for Excellence for Undergraduate (REU) grants in 2007-2008 and 2008-2009. Without these NSF supports, it would not be possible to contemplate a mega-project like WHMNet.
Between 2007 and May 2010, the Emily Hollowell Fund for Research of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science of Simmons College also provided minor support for work-study assistants and very small number of graduate assistants.
Since September 2010 to the present, WHMNet has been supported by Global Connection and Collaboration so that this mega project could reach its completion for public launching in early May 2011, as well as its continuing effort in adding new inscribed sites each year from 2011.
