Description: As of the 10th century, the town of Bamberg grew to be a central link with the Slav peoples, especially those of Poland and Pomerania. During its prosperous peak from the 12th century onwards, Bamberg’s architecture powerfully influenced northern Germany and Hungary. It was southern Germany’s centre of Enlightenment in the late 18th century, with renowned philosophers and writers such as Hegel and Hoffmann residing there. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.
