Description: This 'City of the Kings' was, until the middle of the 18th century, the Spanish dominions’ capital and most important city in South America. Earthquakes severely damaged the city, but many of its surviving buildings, such as the Convent of San Francisco (largest of its type in this part of the world), are the product of the cooperation between local craftspeople and others from the Old World. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.
The Historic Center of Lima is one of the most important tourist destinations in Peru, and is located principally in the downtown or Cercado de Lima and Rímac areas. --Wikipedia. Text is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.
