Description: The sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Congonhas in Minais Gerais, positioned south of Belo Horizonte, was built in the second half of the 18th century. The sanctuary encompasses an Italian inspired church with a magnificent Rococo interior; an outside stairway adorned with statues of the prophets; and seven chapels exemplifying the Stations of the Cross, within which stand Aleijadinho’s polychrome sculptures - masterpieces that allude to a highly original, moving, expressive form of Baroque art. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.
