Description: | The Almoravids Founded Marrakesh in 1070–72, it has since remained a political, economic and cultural centre. The whole western Muslim world felt its influence, from North Africa to Andalusia. It boasts a number of striking monuments dating from that period: the Koutoubiya Mosque, the Kasbah, the battlements, monumental doors, gardens, etc. Architectural gems from later periods consist of the Bandiâ Palace, the Ben Youssef Madrasa, the Saadian Tombs, a number of grand residences and Place Jamaâ El Fna, an authentic open-air theatre. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available. | |
