Description: The parricidal King Kassapa I (477–95) erected the capital at the summit and on the vertical slopes of a granite peak, now its ruins stand some 370 m high upon the 'Lion's Rock', which towers above the surrounding jungle. A string of galleries and staircases emerge from the mouth of a gigantic brick and plaster-constructed lion, which provides admittance to the site. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.
