Description: | Architect Gerrit Thomas Rietveld designed and built Utrecht’s Rietveld Schröder House in 1924, which was commissioned by Ms Truus Schröder-Schräder. This tiny family house, with its internal flexible spatial arrangement, and its visual and formal qualities, was a manifesto of the De Stijl group ideals among the artists and architects of the1920s Netherlands. It has since become an icon of the Modern Movement in architecture. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available. The Rietveld Schröder House (also known as the Schröder House) in Utrecht was built in 1924 by Dutch architect Gerrit Rietveld for Mrs. Truus Schröder-Schräder and her three children. She commissioned the house to be designed preferably without walls. The house is one of the best known examples of De Stijl-architecture and arguably the only true De Stijl building. In the year 2000 it was placed on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. --Wikipedia. Text is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.
