Description: In 1920 Lemmer (the province of Friesland) saw the opening of the Wouda Pumping Station. Among steam-pumping stations, this is the largest and it is still in operation. Representing a high point in the engineering and architectural contributions of Netherlands this project protected the local people and land against the natural forces of water. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.
