Description: Located mostly along the Great Escarpment on Australia's east coast, this site encompasses several protected areas. The site is internationally significant in terms of science and conservation as it is the home of rare and endangered rainforest species and its shield volcanic craters are surrounded by impressive geological features. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.
The Central Eastern Rainforest Reserves includes eight separate areas totaling 3,665 square km, clustered around the New South Wales - Queensland border. They were inscribed to the World Heritage list in 1986, covering only the N.S.W. sites (3600 km²) and extended in 1994 to cover the Queensland sites (592 km²). The Queensland areas include Lamington National Park, Springbrook National Park, Mount Barney National Park, Main Range National Park, and 37 other National parks and protected areas as well. The NSW areas include Dorrigo National Park. --Wikipedia. Text is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.
