Description: Making up the largest protected area in the Amazon Basin (over 6 million ha); the Central Amazon Conservation Complex is one of the planet’s richest regions in terms of biodiversity. The site contains an important sample of varzea ecosystems, igapó forests, lakes and channels which form the continuously evolving aquatic mosaic, in which the world’s largest array of electric fish reside. Key threatened species, among them the giant arapaima fish, the Amazonian manatee, the black caiman and two species of river dolphin are protected within the site. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.
The Jaú National Park (parque nacional do Jaú) is located in the Amazonas state in Brazil. It is the largest forest reserve in South America, covering an area greater than 5.6 million acres (23,000 km²). Entry into the park is restricted; express permission from the Brazilian government is required to enter the reserve. The park is known as a good example of tropical rainforest conservation in the Amazon. It houses spotted jaguars, manatees, pink river dolphins, and numerous other species of animals and plants. --Wikipedia. Text is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.
