Description: One of the most spectacular landscapes in the world was created through considerable erosion over countless years. Located on the Ethiopian plateau, the site is affluent with jagged mountain peaks, deep valleys and 1,500 m deep precipices. Some extremely rare animals reside in the park, among them, the Gelada baboon, the Simien fox and the Walia ibex, a goat found nowhere else in the world. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.   Semien Mountains National Park is one of the National Parks of Ethiopia. Located in the Semien Gondar Zone of the Amhara Region, its territory covers the Semien Mountains and includes Ras Dashan, the highest point in Ethiopia and fourth-highest in Africa. It is home to a number of extremely rare species, including the Ethiopian wolf, Gelada Baboon, and the Walia Ibex, a goat found no where else in the world. It was one of the first sites to be made a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (1978); however, due to serious population declines of the characteristic native species, in 1996 it was also added to the List of World Heritage Sites in danger. --Wikipedia.
