Description: Wartburg Castle beautifully fuses into the surrounding forest environment and is in various ways 'the ideal castle'. Even though some of its original sections have remained from the feudal period, the appearance it acquired during the 19th-century reconstitution provides a great illustration of the fortresses possible being during the height of its military and seigneurial power. Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German, during the time of his exile at Wartburg Castle. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.
The Wartburg is a castle situated on a 1230-foot (410 m) precipitous hill to the southwest of Eisenach, overlooking the town in Thuringia, Germany. In 1999, Wartburg Castle was selected to the World Heritage List as an "Outstanding Monument of the Feudal Period in Central Europe" and is linked to "Cultural Values of Universal Significance". --Wikipedia.
