Description: Developing due to the exploitation of silver mines, Kutná Hora became a royal city in the 14th century gifted with monuments that denoted its prosperity. The late Gothic period’s jewel, the Saint Barbara Church and the Cathedral of Our Lady at Sedlec (restored in line with the 18th century baroque taste) in Kutná Hora influenced the architecture of the rest of Central Europe. Today these masterpieces shape part of a preserved medieval urban fabric which also boasts a striking affluence of private dwellings. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.
