Description: Ever since the 3rd millennium B.C this small Aegean island, near Asia Minor has been inhabited by many civilizations. The site still retains the remains of the Heraion, temple of the Samian Hera, as well as Pythagoreion, an early fortified port bedecked with Greek and Roman monuments and an impressive tunnel-aqueduct. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.
The remains of the Pythagoreion, an ancient fortified port with Greek and Roman monuments and a spectacular tunnel, the Tunnel of Eupalinos or Eupalinian aqueduct, along with the Heraion of Samos were jointly registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. --Wikipedia.
