Description: This renowned Buddhist temple (8th and 9th centuries) is situated in central Java. The building was constructed in three tiers: a pyramidal foundation with five concentric square terraces, the main cone with three circular platforms and, the monumental stupaoverhead. Fine low reliefs adorn the walls and balustrades, in full covering a surface area of 2,500 sq. m. 72 openwork stupassurround the circular platforms, each enclosing a Buddha statue.   Borobudur is a ninth century Buddhist Mahayana monument in Central Java, Indonesia. The monument comprises six square platforms topped by three circular platforms, and is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. A main dome is located at the center of the top platform, and is surrounded by seventy-two Buddha statues seated inside perforated stupa. --Wikipedia.
