Description: Central Finland’s Petäjävesi Old Church was constructed of logs (1763 - 1765). The Lutheran country church is a characteristic example of a uniquely eastern Scandinavian architectural tradition. The site is a fusion of the centrally planned church design of the Renaissance together with older forms that draw from Gothic groin vaults. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.
The wooden church of Petäjävesi was inscribed in 1994 on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It was built between 1763 and 1765. UNESCO considered it to be a representative Lutheran church of the Scandinavian tradition, mixing Renaissance with older Gothic elements. --Wikipedia.
