Description: The Whale Sanctuary of El Vizcaíno is positioned in the central part of the peninsula of Baja California. The site is home to a number of remarkably fascinating ecosystems. The Ojo de Liebre and San Ignacio coastal lagoons are central sites for the reproduction and wintering of the grey whale, harbour seal, California sea lion, northern elephant-seal and blue whale. In addition, the lagoons house four species of the endangered marine turtle. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.
The El Vizcaíno Biosphere Reserve is located at the center of the Baja California Peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and Sea of Cortez (or Gulf of California). With a landmass of over 25,000 km² (10,000 mi²) it is the largest wildlife refuge in all of Latin America and certainly the most diverse. --Wikipedia.
