Description: The reserve lying at the centre of the tiny island of Praslin, holds the remains of a natural palm forest maintained in almost its original state. The site houses he largest seed in the plant kingdom: the renowned coco de mer, from a palm-tree - formerly thought to grow in the depths of the sea. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.
Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve is a nature park and UNESCO World Heritage Site (inscribed in 1983) located on the island Praslin, Seychelles. It consists of a well-preserved palm forest made up of the endemic coco de mer species as well as five other endemic species of palm. These palms have the largest seeds of any plant in the world. The trees' leaves are 6 metres wide and 14 metres long. Also unique to the park is its wildlife, which includes endemic birds, mammals, crustaceans, snails, and reptiles. --Wikipedia.
