Description: Dating back to the 12th century, the Minaret of Jam is a graceful towering structure 65m-tall. Representing the height of architectural and artistic tradition of the region, the Minaret of Jam is covered with intricate brickwork and a blue tile inscription at its top. Its location in the heart of Ghur province heightens its impact, as it is set deep in a river valley giving it a setting like no other. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site where additional information is available.   The Minaret of Jam is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in western Afghanistan. It is located in the Shahrak District, Ghor Province, by the Hari Rud river. The 65 metre high minaret, surrounded by mountains that reach up to 2400 meters, is built entirely of baked-bricks. It is famous for its intricate brick, stucco and glazed tile decoration, which consists of alternating bands of kufic and naskhi calligraphy, geometric patterns, and verses from the Qur'an (the surat Maryam, relating to Mary, the mother of Jesus). --Wikipedia.
