Description: | Emperor Trajan converted un-trodden soil into a military colony; Timgad was built on the northern slope of the Aures Mountains in 100 AD. Representing Roman town planning, Timgad's square enclosure and orthogonal design is based on the cardo (north-south) and decumanus (east-west) routes that run through the city. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available. | |
