Description: The fortress-city of Fasil Ghebbi (16th-17th centuries) housed the Ethiopian emperor Fasilides and his successors. Within the city (surrounded by a 900-m-long wall) lie palaces, monasteries, churches and unique public and private buildings. The architecture was initially marked by Hindu and Arab influences, but subsequently Jesuit missionaries brought to Gondar the Baroque style which transformed the manner. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.
