Description: Cradled in a striking landscape of prehistoric (chalcolithic) sites, an early Hindu capital’s hill fortress, and remains of the 16th century Gujarat state capital sits a concentration of largely unexcavated archaeological, historic and living cultural heritage properties. Among other relics, the site also consists of 8th-14th century fortifications, palaces, religious buildings, residential precincts, agricultural structures and water installations. The crown of the Pavagadh Hill holding the Kalikamata Temple, considered a significant shrine, attracts vast amounts of pilgrims throughout the year. This is the only Islamic pre-Mughal city left fully intact and unchanged. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.
