Description: The Tombs of Buganda Kings at Kasubi compose a site comprising about 30 ha of hillside within Kampala district. For the most part the site is agricultural, still farmed by traditional methods. The Kabakas of Buganda’s previous palace (erected in 1882 and transformed in 1884 into the royal burial ground) sits at the site’s heart, upon the hilltop. At present four royal tombs rest inside the Muzibu Azaala Mpanga, the main circular building graced with a dome. It is a chief example of an architectural triumph using natural materials, principally wood, thatch, reed, wattle and daub. However, the site's core significance is found in its ethereal values of belief, spirituality, continuity and identity. --WHMNet paraphrase from the description at WHC Site, where additional information is available.
